Our founder's story

Hello Everyone,

My name is Yannick Atanga. Growing up in Yaoundé (Cameroon), I shared the same sense of hopelessness about a better future as many children in developing countries. This deteriorated after my mother passed away, leaving us with nothing to look forward to.

One day while strolling down the street in my village, a stranger approached me and said, "Sometimes God sends us blessings, and we don't know how to completely take advantage of that blessing." If I were you, I would try basketball." He was referring to my height. Two weeks later, I made it to a basketball court that was about ten miles away from my house. I instantly fell in love with the game, and it quickly became my safe haven. It was the one place where I could dream, and strive toward achieving my goals. Three years later, my dream began to take shape when a man named Joe Touomou, who is now my mentor and biggest inspiration, helped me get a scholarship to study in the United States as a student-athlete. That opportunity not only changed my life, but it gave my entire family hope.

Throughout this fantastic journey, one thing has resonated with me more than anything else: it’s knowing that many more young boys and girls are hoping and praying for opportunities similar to the ones I was given. Many young African boys and girls nowadays aspire to make a difference in their lives and their loved ones' lives. With that in mind, I wanted to be that ray of hope, the connecting link between them and their dreams.

That is why I started this nonprofit, to promote education via sport and help these young boys and girls realize how sports can be used to fulfill their greatest educational aspirations and life goals.

As an orphan myself, orphanages are an important part of Impact Charity. The goal for us is to show orphan children that they matter, that they are as important as any child, and that they are not forgotten. We hope to bring them joy in life by providing them with all the support we can get to enrich their lives.
